Construction Environmental Management
AAe were contracted to oversee the environmental management of the construction works. AAe provided the Project Environmental Manager, Environmental Clerk of Works and Ecological Clerk of Works. The team were responsible for:
Noise
Noise assessment was integrated into the development of the working programme and community liaison process. Due to the nature of construction activities had to be completed in sensitive periods including 24 hour working over Christmas. AAe assessed noise levels, implemented mitigation and monitored compliance. In total over 30 s61 consent submissions were submitted and approved by Councils to enable works to continue without the prospect of enforcement.
Dusts, vapours and asbestos
Development of management plans and monitoring systems to the levels of fugitive dusts were understood and actions suitably taken. Works included an assessment of the levels of crystalline silica within fugitive dusts.
Pollution control
Groundwater level and quality was assessed during the construction of a deep cutting adjacent to a landfill to ensure there was no discernible change in the groundwater regime and quality.
Surface waters were routinely assessed to determine the presence of suspended solids and other pollutants throughout the 3 year construction period.
